The Project

My house has a flat roof. Not good in Iowa where the weather can be quite variable.

The roof leaks every year and I'm constantly up there patching it. This year's been especially bad with the ton of rain we've had so I decided it was time to get a new roof.

After I spent a few weeks getting estimates and getting the financing, the contractors got started.
First they stripped off the tar and rolled roofing.

Then they removed the old plywood. It was a pretty chilly in the house that night with no roof.

With the roof off, we were thinking, why not add a second floor while we're at it! Here we are with the first wall up.

Three walls on and the rafters going up.

View from the back after the roof sheeting was added.

Here's how it looks today with the windows all in and the shingles beginning to go on.

In one week I went from having the smallest house on the block to the biggest!

Yay! It looks awesome, and it's crazy to see the house so tall. :) Sorry I didn't respond to your text earlier... I have my phone on silent most of the day and didn't see it until now, 1:30 AM your time. I hope the surgery goes well! I will text you tomorrow.
